There comes a moment in games I’ve played where you’re wandering around a town or something and suddenly you make the judgement that okay, yes, this game’s soundtrack is freaking awesome. I remember that happening for me when I reached Castle City Jad for the first time in Seiken Densetsu 3. From the fanfare in the beginning, to the pesante main theme, to when it backs off to reveal a heartbeat that sounds like the premise of doom, to when it lightens up and plays a cheery folkish tune, to the switch right back to the militaristic beginning -- There’s something about the contrast between the primal and the courtly themes that I just adore.
