I became a Bump of Chicken fan the moment I first heard the vocal version of this song. My friends and I spent hours memorizing the lyrics and singing along to it in the car or at cons. Little did I know it would be incredibly difficult to record a cello version of a pop song! As a cellist, I’m not really used to playing vocal lines as they are very syncopated and in general have a very different style from cello playing. Also it turns out the only way to emulate the strumming of a guitar is to just play very fast notes at the right time. Well, I hope I did the song justice. I had a lot of fun with it in the end, and even played it live in front of an audience of people who probably had never heard of Tales of the Abyss.
